‘Back to basics’ at Sarasota Improv Festival
Florida Studio Theatre is adopting a back-to-basics mantra for this summer’s 11th annual Sarasota Improv Festival.
Festival director Will Luera told the Herald Tribune newspaper that the acts will be performing in a less stylized format.
Headlining festival is Quartet, a group consisting of some of America’s top improvisers. Formed by Bob Dassie in the 90s, Quartet has featured a variety of members-including Tami Sagher (Writer, 30 Rock, Psych, and How I Met Your Mother), Stephnie Weir (MADtv), and Jack McBrayer (30 Rock). The group is dedicated to relationship and character-driven improvisational comedy.
Other acts include Improv Boston, Parallelogramophonograph, The Maydays and Dad’s Garage. There is also a wide range of workshops on the Sunday of the festival.
Will Luera steps in as festival director after working for the last few summers with its founder, Rebecca Hopkins, the theater’s managing director. Hopkins continues with the festival as producer.
